Mayawati Accuses SP, Congress of Secret Alliance to Block BSP; Praises Yogi for Preserving Dalit Memorials
Mayawati, the leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), said that the opposing political parties had formed a "secret alliance". This is done to keep her party away from gaining power in Uttar Pradesh.

New Delhi (India) October 9: Mayawati is the leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). She strongly criticized Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav's "PDA" (Backward, Dalit, Minority) political formula in Uttar Pradesh. On Thursday, Mayawati spoke at the anniversary of BSP founder Kanshi Ram's death. The rally was organised at the Kanshi Ram Memorial in Lucknow.
Mayawati Targets Akhilesh’s PDA Formula
She accused the Samajwadi Party of ignoring Dalits when they were in power. They were trying to win their support in elections with the PDA slogan.
She said, “When they are in power, they neither remember PDA, nor saints, gurus, and great personalities associated with it. But the moment they lose power, they suddenly start remembering our saints, gurus, and great men. People need to be very cautious of such double-faced individuals."
Mayawati criticized the Congress and the Samajwadi Party for "insulting Dalits" with casteist hate and hypocrisy. She attacked both parties.
Rejects Secret Meetings rumours
Mayawati said that she will meet people in public instead of closed doors. This statement was made to clarify rumors that Azam Khan can join her party. He is a well-known Muslim leader in the Samajwadi Party.
She said, “Since last month, the rumour about a senior leader from another party joining the BSP has been spreading. It was also said that the said leader had already met the BSP chief at Delhi and Lucknow. But as of now, I have no knowledge about any such meeting."
BSP to Stand Alone in Elections
Mayawati also claimed that the party has not benefited by running in alliances in the state or another region of the nation.
She said, "Our votes get transferred, but the other party does not transfer votes to us, which reduces our vote share. Even when alliances form the government, they do not last long."
Praise for Yogi Government
She also praised Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Mayawati said that parks and other memorials constructed under the BSP's rule had been preserved by the BJP government.
She said, "I wrote a letter to the chief minister requesting that the ticket money collected from visitors be used for maintenance. The BJP government assured us that this money would not be diverted elsewhere but would be used only for upkeep and they did so. For this, our party is thankful to them.”
Congress Charges Mayawati With Betraying Dalits
The Congress accused the BSP of "acting on the BJP's directions" because of this selective attack. Ajay Rai is the head of the Congress in Uttar Pradesh. He referred to it as a "betrayal of Kanshi Ram's legacy". This comes at the time of growing Dalit crimes, such as the murder of Hariom Valmiki. He said Mayawati ignored the matter.
Mayawati's rally in Lucknow is her first significant gathering since 2021. She demonstrated the BSP's renewed passion and the party's attempts to strengthen its base. It also signifies a move toward younger leadership. She is now sharing the platform with her nephew, Akash Anand.
