Ambassador Promises Safe Passage for India
Ambassador Fathali emphasized that India is a valued partner for Iran, assuring that Indian vessels would not encounter obstacles in this crucial shipping lane.
He said, "... Yes, because India is our friend. You will see it within two or three hours. We believe that Iran and India share common interests in the region.”
Iran Views India as Key Friend
He also highlighted the deeper ties between New Delhi and Tehran, characterizing their relationship as one founded on friendship and collaboration. Fathali expressed gratitude for India's support during challenging times for Iran.
“As ambassador in India, I say that the government of India in this situation, after the war, helped us in different fields,” he said.
As the conflict in West Asia continues, Fathali’s assurance of safe passage for Indian ships comes at a critical moment, with governments and shipping companies closely watching developments around the Strait.
Iran Denies Closing Vital Global Trade Route
Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi, a representative of Iran's Supreme Leader in India, stated that while the waterway has not been officially closed, the war has impacted commercial vessel operations.
"Iran has not closed the Strait. It remains open; however, due to current conditions and circumstances, ships are unable to pass through the Hormuz. Otherwise, Iran never wanted the Strait to be closed or blocked. Some (ships) are still passing through," he said.
Seeking Diplomacy with US Before Further Escalation
He reiterated that Iran did not initiate the conflict and is seeking a diplomatic resolution with Washington before any further escalation.
"Iran did not initiate this war. Iran was engaged in negotiations with the United States and was also pursuing diplomatic efforts... Suddenly, the United States, along with the Zionist regime, attacked Iran, and they targeted a lot of civilians in Iran. We will win in this war, and we are prepared to sacrifice everything we possess for the sake of our dignity and our land," Ilahi said.
