New Delhi (India) June 1: Opal Suchata Chuangsri of Thailand has taken home the 72nd Miss World title. She was crowned by Miss World 2024 Krystyna Pyszkova at the final ceremony at the HITEX Exhibition Centre in Hyderabad on May 31.
The first runner-up of the pageant was Hasset Dereje of Ethiopia and the second runner-up was Maja Klajda of Poland. 108 competitors from all over the world competed in this year's renowned beauty pageant. Model Nandini Gupta had represented India. She was placed among the top 20 contestants for the title of Miss World 2025.
India is hosting the Miss World contest for the second year in a row. Last year,Mumbai hosted the pageant's 71st edition.
Opal went across the stage in a lovely white gown embroidered with florals that looked like opals which represented both strength and healing.
According to her, the gown is a tribute to the inspirational story of "Opal For HER," which embraces the natural beauty, resiliency, and transformation of the jewel.
She has gone through a surgery herself when she was 16 and has also volunteered for breast cancer organisations.
Opal has also topped the contestant app scoreboard with over 2.3 million views and won the multimedia part of the competition. She was one of the four continental winners for Asia and Oceania.
Opal had earlier competed for Thailand in the international Miss Universe 2024 competition in Mexico City, where she placed third. But because she accepted the Miss World Thailand 2025 title before finishing her 12-month term as Miss Universe Thailand, her ranking as third runner-up was eventually removed.
The judging panel of Miss World 2025 included Sonu Sood, an actor who won the Miss World Humanitarian Award and Sudha Reddy, the 2025 Global Ambassador for Beauty With a Purpose.
The jury also included Dr. Caryna Turrell, a public health doctor from the University of Cambridge and the 2014 Miss England contestant. Krystyna Pyszkova, the 2024 Miss World, also participated in choosing her successor. Julia Morley, the chairwoman of Miss World, headed the jury.
