Pune’s 2.12 Km Sinhagad Flyover to Open This Month
Pune's 2.12 km flyover from Vithalwadi to Funtime Theatre awaits green signal

Pune (Maharashtra) [India] April 23: Work on Pune’s longest flyover was completed by March-end, yet it stays shut. From Vithalwadi to Funtime Theatre, the 2.12 km stretch on Sinhagad Road stands ready, but streetlights and signs are still being fixed. The wait continues, not for technical reasons but due to delays in its formal opening. Many residents feel the flyover could be helping already if it were not stuck in such processes.
Daily Struggle with Traffic
Sinhagad Road is one of Pune’s busiest roads, filled with school vans, office cars, and city buses every morning. Locals like Tushar Potphode feel the jam-packed lanes steal their peace. With the flyover complete, they wonder why it is still closed. People say it’s public money, so the bridge should be in public use — not caught in political games.
People’s Voice Getting Stronger
Citizens, leaders, and even engineers are now speaking up. MP Supriya Sule posted a video asking why the bridge remains closed when it could give big relief. Executive engineer Sandeep Patil shared that only small tasks like signage are left. People are asking for action, not just words, and wish for an early opening to beat the regular traffic load.
A Bigger Plan for Sinhagad Road
This flyover is part of a bigger ₹118 crore project on Sinhagad Road. Earlier this year, a flyover at Rajaram Bridge Chowk was opened. Another one from Goyal Ganga Chowk to Prakash Inamdar Chowk is 70% ready. These bridges are designed to ease traffic from all sides and give a smooth ride to thousands daily. But delays make people wonder if politics will always be in the driver’s seat.
History Behind the Area’s Growth
Sinhagad Road was once quieter, with farmlands and small shops. As Pune grew, this road turned into a busy lifeline. From IT offices to housing colonies, everything grew quickly, but roads didn’t catch up. The flyover is not just concrete and steel — it’s a sign of Pune’s changing face. Residents now hope this new bridge will bring back some calm to their busy roads.
