Pune Rape Case: In a twist, the women admits knowing the accused; took the selfie herself, investigations underway

New Delhi (India) July 5: In Pune, a 22-year-old woman who was allegedly raped at her home on Wednesday stated that the accused, who is currently being held by the police, entered her home with her permission which raised questions about her description of what happened. The woman claimed that the threatening message was written by her and that the accused took the selfie on her phone with her consent.

According to police sources on Thursday, the accused entered the woman's apartment around 7:30 p.m. and committed the crime while posing as a delivery executive. Her brother was out at work and the woman was by herself at home.

According to Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, the accused and the woman had been in contact for nearly a year. He said that police had the accused's and the woman's call logs.

According to Kumar, the police were looking into the case from a variety of perspectives and had CCTV as the only concrete proof so far.

According to the Police Commissioner, the woman concealed information about the accused that made the investigation more difficult. He also claimed that the woman denied identifying the accused, claiming that it was not him.

Amitesh Kumar said, "When we got information about the incident, our team was already working. At 9 am yesterday, we got the evidence. But, the woman was refusing to identify the accused, saying he was not the suspect. No one else had gone to the building except the accused."

He also added, "The accused had gone to the woman's house with her consent. The photo taken was done with the consent of both. But, the message typed on it was sent by the woman. The accused and the woman know each other. The accused is currently in our custody."

He continued by saying that the story of a stranger assaulting her under false pretences has been refuted, but the nature of the sexual encounter—whether forced or consensual—remains under investigation.

The woman had previously stated that on Wednesday night, an unidentified man posing as a courier delivery agent broke into her Kondhwa apartment, ran out the door, and raped her after allegedly saturating her in a chemical that made her faint.
