New Delhi (India) May 26: Tej Pratap Yadav, the Hasanpur MLA and eldest son of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad, was expelled from the party for six years after his video with a girl went viral on social media.

Lalu Prasad Yadav posted, “Ignoring moral values in personal life weakens the collective struggle for social cause. The activities, public conduct and irresponsible behaviour of the eldest son are not in accordance with our family values and traditions. Therefore, due to the above circumstances, I remove him from the party and family. From now on, he will not have any role of any kind in the party and family. He is expelled from the party for 6 years.”

“He is capable of judging what is right or wrong in his personal life. Those who choose to associate with him should make their own decisions. I have always supported accountability in public life, and obedient members of our family have upheld this principle.” on social media platform X.

A social media post that has since been removed is the reason for the controversy that resulted in Tej Pratap's suspension. Yesterday, a picture of Tej Pratap Yadav with a woman was posted on his Facebook page. The woman was identified as Anushka Yadav in the post, which said that she and the RJD leader had been together in a relationship for 12 years.

Many people have criticized the post, asking why the RJD leader, who was already in a relationship, married Aishwarya, the daughter of former Bihar Minister Chandrika Rai, in 2018. Aishwarya and Tej Pratap had split up months after the wedding.

The Facebook post was removed shortly after it went viral as Tej Pratap claimed that his profile had been hacked.

He posted, "My social media platform was hacked and my photographs were edited wrongfully." on X.

Tejashwi, the younger brother of Tej Pratap and the face of RJD, stated that such acts "cannot be tolerated".

Tejashwi Yadav supported their father's decision to remove his brother Tej Pratap from the RJD due to his moral behaviour, but also defended his brother's right to personal choice.

He said, "We are doing our work, we are dedicated to Bihar and we are raising people's issues. As far as my elder brother is concerned, political life and personal life are different. He has the right to make his personal decisions. He is an adult and free to make decisions. Our party's chief has made it clear.”

Tejashwi confirmed Lalu's choice to ban Tej Pratap from the family and the party and said, "Our party's chief has made it clear, and ever since he has said so, it is his feelings. We didn't question such things... What he is doing in his personal life, nobody asks before doing anything. I have come to know about it via the media only."

Rohini Acharya, the leader of the RJD, also strongly supported her father, Lalu Prasad Yadav in his decision to remove Tej Pratap Yadav from the family and the party.

She wrote, "Those who take care of the dignity of the environment, tradition, family and upbringing are never questioned. Those who abandon their wisdom and repeatedly commit the mistake of crossing the limits of decent conduct and family prestige, they make themselves the subject of criticism.” on X.

According to the party sources, the decision was made after keeping in mind the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections and any scandal might damage his younger son Tejashwi Yadav's reputation and political career.
