Wimbledon Semi Finals: Sinner Beats Djokovic To Reach His First Wimbledon Final

New Delhi (India) July 12: After defeating Novak Djokovic in straight sets in the second semifinal, Jannik Sinner reached his first Wimbledon final. The 23-year-old also took revenge for losing to Djokovic in straight sets in the 2023 semifinal.

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner defeated seven-time champion Novak Djokovic in straight sets in the men's singles semifinal. Sinner won 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 breaking Djokovic five times during the match.

SINNER'S WINNING STATEMENT

Sinner said, “I can’t believe it” about reaching his first Wimbledon final.

He added, “It’s a tournament I always watched when I was young on television. I would never have imagined that I could play here in the final, so it’s amazing. I know how much work me and my team are putting in. My dad and my brother arrived today, so it’s even more special.”

FINAL AGAINST CARLOS ALCARAZ

In the final, Sinner will face Carlos Alcaraz. Carlos is ranked second in the world. Alcaraz secured his place in the final earlier in the day by defeating American Taylor Fritz in four sets.

Sinner lost three championship points to Alcaraz in the Roland Garros final last month. The two will now face off again on Sunday on the famous Centre Court of the All England Club.

Sinner said, “We saw the last final. You never know. It’s a huge honour for me to share the court once again with Carlos. We try to push ourselves to the limit. He is for sure one of the players I look up to. I love watching him and we all agree what kind of talent he is. Hopefully it’s going to be a good match like the last one” regarding the final match.

By defeating Djokovic, Sinner made it to the final round of all four Grand Slam competitions. In the Open Era, he is the eleventh man to achieve that.

The 23-year-old has now defeated Djokovic five times in a row. The matches included Grand Slam semifinal victories at the Australian Open in 2024, Roland Garros in 2025 and Wimbledon.

DJOKOVIC'S WIMBLEDON JOURNEY ENDS

At Wimbledon 2025, Novak Djokovic lost in the semifinals. Throughout the match, Djokovic appeared to be not well physically. But in the third set, he displayed hints of a terrifying comeback.

Djokovic praised Sinner as the "best player in the world" right now. He also wished him luck before his first Wimbledon final.

Djokovic said, “Obviously he has done very well for himself today, and for the last year and a half he has been the best player in the world. He is gonna have a chance to win his first Wimbledon title. I wished him luck, it is gonna be his first final here and I am sure he is going to be super pumped.”

Djokovic appears to be aging as he lost his signature movement and accuracy. There are still questions surrounding the 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic's future at Wimbledon at the age of 38.
