World Happiness Report 2025: Final Tops Once more, what India and Pakistan's Rankings?
2025 Report Ranks Countries based on Social Support Aspects Affecting Societal Satisfaction

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] March 20:The Wellbeing Research Centre at the University of Oxford, along with Gallup, the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, and an independent editorial board, launched The World Happiness Report, 2025 on Thursday, March 20. It placed India 118th out of 147 countries.
In an index that ranks countries based on the accessibility of different social, physical, and mental support aspects, France once again came out on top as the "happiest" country. Denmark and Iceland came in second and third, accordingly.
Afghanistan got a poor score because many Afghan women said their lives were getting tough. Sierra Leone and Lebanon came in next and third, accordingly.
In 2012, India placed 144th on the list, and in 2022, it got as far up as 94th.
The study looks at six things that could contribute to happiness
social support, GDP per person, health quality of life, freedom, helping others, and how corrupt people think things are.
The study also makes a map of whether the answers showed positive or negative feelings about this nation
India got high marks for social support because it has a lot of individuals, a society that values community, and the tradition of having big families that live together.
But the country got the lowest possible rating on the freedom factor, which checks to see if people think they have choices in their society and if those choices lead to an enjoyable life.
Sri Lanka came in 133rd, Bangladesh was placed 134th, Pakistan was placed 109th, Nepal was rank 92nd, and China was placed 68th.
The top 20 were primarily made up of Western countries, mostly European countries. But Costa Rica and Mexico made it into the top 10 for the first time, getting in at 6th and 10th place, accordingly
At number 24, the United States fell to its lowest ever spot because people were becoming more lonely and dissatisfied. The UK came in at rank 23, which is the lowest possible score it has had since 2017.
This year's issue, which looks at the "happiness" factor in countries in 2024 based on studies within the world, was mostly about how "caring and sharing" effects people's happiness and contentment. In order to find out if people gave and if they felt like they had support from their neighbourhood, ask a group of people.
Care is "twice-blessed," just like "goodwill" in Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice." It blesses both those who give and those who receive. This study looks to both of these effects: the rewards for those who are cared for and the advantages for those who care for others.
