A woman from Kerala who is 59 years old walked to Everest Base Camp without any prior experience

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] March 18: A dressmaker from Kerala who is 59 years old beat age and expectations by going to the base camp of Everest without any training. Vasanthi Cheruveettil, who lives in Thalipparamba in Kannur, did this incredible thing by persevering and learning on her own. Manorama says she got to the South Base Camp on February 23. She began her walk in Surke, Nepal, on February 15.
Use YouTube and daily walks for exercise
Even though her friends didn't believe her, Cheruveettil exercised for four months to get ready for her trip. She kept to a strict schedule: she walked for three hours every day in trekking footwear to get better, and in the evenings she walked five to six miles with her friends. She also watched YouTube videos to get used to basic trekking techniques and learnt Hindi so she could talk to people better on her trip.

Getting through difficult terrain on the journey
It wasn't easy for her to get to Everest Base Camp. Because of bad weather, her flight to Lukla had to be stopped. She had to find a new way to get there by going through Surke with the help of a German couple she met in Nepal. Trekkers from all over the world met her along the way, including a father and son from Thiruvananthapuram.
Vasanthi Cheruveettil, who lives in Thalipparamba in Kannur, studied how to do this incredible thing on her own and kept at it. Manorama says that on February 23, she got to the South Base Camp. On February 15, she begun her walk in Surke, Nepal.
Online hearts were won over Cheruveettil's journey after a picture of her waving the Indian flag at Everest Base Camp whereas dressed in a traditional Kasavu saree went popular. She has been on trips by herself before. Last year, she went to Thailand by herself because her friends didn't think a woman could handle going that far by herself.
Her stitching business pays for her journeys, and her sons Vineeth and Vivek sometimes help her out with money. She is currently at Everest Base Camp and is excited to see the Great Wall of China, which is her next dream vacation place.
