Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Attacked During Jan Sunwai at Civil Lines Home, Police Arrest Attacker; Security Concerns Rise
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) branch in Delhi reports on Wednesday that a "mishap happened" during Jan Sunvai at Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's Civil Lines home. They cite reports of someone "pulling her hair" and "slapping" the CM.

New Delhi (India) August 20: According to police, a man attacks Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday. She was at her home for a Jan Sunwai (public hearing). Virendraa Sachdeva is the leader of the Delhi BJP. He states that the guy had attacked her during the hearing.
Suspect Identified as a Gujarat Resident
The police identifies the suspect as Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakariya. He is a 41-year-old Rajkot resident. Police verifies that he is in custody.
According to police, he will be subjected to in-depth interrogation to figure out his motives. The Delhi Police also communicates with the Gujarat Police to confirm the accused's name and residence.
Details of the Incident
According to officials, the man gave Gupta some papers before ranting and screaming at her and then hitting her. Police quickly overpowers and later arrests him. Sources claim that after the accused attacked Rekha Gupta, he was beaten by other attendees at the event before the police took him into custody.
According to police, an investigation into the event is currently ongoing. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) also arrived at the Chief Minister's home.
S.B.K. Singh, the police commissioner is also on his way to the chief minister's home in Civil Lines. The CCTV footage is being analyzed by the police in order to determine the order of events.
Leaders condemn violence
Manjinder Singh Sirsa, the environment minister, says that a political conspiracy is responsible for the attack. He also confirms that the chief minister is okay.
Sirsa posts, “Her fearless connect with people and unwavering commitment to public service clearly unsettles the Opposition, which is stooping to such shameful tactics,” on social media platform X.
Virendraa Sachdeva is the chairman of the Delhi BJP. He also details the incident. He states that the Chief Minister may have had her head strike a corner during an engagement. It started when the attacker attempted to grab her hand during the hearing.
According to him, medical professionals have confirmed that Gupta is stable but in shock. The authorities are looking into the man's identity and motivation.
Sachdeva describes Gupta as a "strong woman with a clear commitment to Delhi". He states that she is serious about carrying on with her daily work and Jan Sunwai sessions.
Atishi, an AAP MLA and former chief minister of Delhi, also criticizes the incident. She describes it as "highly condemnable." She claims that "there is no place for violence." Atishi wishes for the Chief Minister's total safety. She also says that she hopes that the Delhi Police will take the toughest possible punishment against the offenders.
Security under question
Given that Rekha Gupta has Z-plus security, the event has brought up significant security concerns. Before entering the Chief Minister's home and being allowed to approach the leader, visitors must pass stringent security checks.
