New Delhi (India) July 13: On Saturday, July 12 at the All England Club, Iga Swiatek finally achieved her long-awaited Wimbledon victory. She overwhelmingly defeated Amanda Anisimova to win the title. Swiatek needed just 57 minutes to finish a dominating 6-0, 6-0 victory on Centre Court.

Dominant Display on Grass

She easily defeated Anisimova. Anisimova had earlier defeated World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals.

The Polish player was once thought of as the queen of clay but has now won over grass. She did in fact once refer to that surface as her greatest problem.

Iga Swiatek said, “I’d never won this title. It’s amazing and I’m going to enjoy this moment. It seems super surreal. I never expected to win and would thank my team to have their trust and support. It is really amazing, see you all next year” during the presentation regarding her win.

History Made

With the victory, Swiatek became the first Polish woman to win the Venus Rosewater Dish. She is the eighth successive first-time women's Wimbledon trophy winner.

Iga is the youngest player to win Grand Slam titles on all three surfaces since Williams in 2002. She also won her first trophy since winning at Roland Garros 13 months ago.

A FRIENDS Fan Moment

After winning her first Wimbledon title on Saturday, Iga Swiatek met and hugged Courteney Cox. Cox is a famous actress. She is known for her role in the drama series FRIENDS.

Swiatek is a major fan of the American television series Friends. She had already shared moments with Cox in public.

The victory was Swiatek's first Grand Slam victory since winning a hat-trick of French Open titles the previous year. This is her first Wimbledon trophy. This is also her first victory on grass.

Interestingly, it was also the first time in the Open Era that a player lost both the men's and women's Wimbledon singles final without winning more than one match.

Swiatek took an early 1-0 lead and quickly established her control. Anisimova saved one break point with a winner but Swiatek ended the match with a decisive win.

She continued in putting pressure. She won 3-0 via double break while Anisimova was having trouble establishing herself. After breaking serve a third time to take a 5-0 lead, Swiatek left no space for recovery. She finished the set in just twenty-five minutes.

Swiatek started the second set the same way she started the first. She took an early break and then held serve to take a 2-0 lead. The Pole gained more momentum and used a double break to increase her lead to 3-0.

In the third game, Swiatek took advantage of the third break point opportunity to firmly hold the lead. In the second set, Swiatek raced to a 5-0 lead with a third straight service break. She leaves Anisimova with no opportunities. After that, she was able to easily cross the finish line and win in front of a standing Centre Court crowd.
