India Slams Bangladesh Media's 'Misleading Propaganda' on Peaceful Protest Over Horrendous Killing of Hindu Youth Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh
Even though security was tightened around the Bangladesh High Commission, widespread violence broke out all over Bangladesh after the death of Osman Hadi and the mob lynching of Dipu Chandra Das.
New Delhi (India) December 21: India on Sunday dismissed reports of the Bangladesh media as "a misleading propaganda" about a protest that reportedly happened outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi after the 'horrendous killing' of Dipu Chandra Das, a member of the minority community in Mymensingh.
MEA Debunks Exaggerated Reports
The external affairs ministry (MEA) said that India is closely keeping an eye on the situation in the neighbouring country and had conveyed its concern over the atrocities against minorities that are going on in Bangladesh.
The Ministry has stated that approximately 20, 25 young people assembled at the Bangladesh High Commission on Saturday and, among other things, protested the "horrendous killing" of Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh, Bangladesh, by raising their voices. It added that the protesters also demanded the protection of the minority communities in Bangladesh.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "We have noted misleading propaganda in sections of the Bangladesh media on the incident. The fact is that about 20-25 youth gathered in front of the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on 20 December and raised slogans in protest against the horrendous killing of Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh, while also calling for the protection of all minorities in Bangladesh. There was no attempt to breach the fence or create a security situation at any time. The police stationed at the spot dispersed the group after a few minutes. Visual evidence of these events is available publicly for all to see. India is committed to ensure the safety of foreign Missions/Posts in its territory in accordance with the Vienna Convention.”
Horrific Mob Attack on Dipu Chandra Das
In the middle of this escalating chaos, a Hindu youth named Dipu Chandra Das was violently attacked by a mob in Mymensingh, and later his body was burned on Friday. The killing of the Indian youth has therefore been met with outrage and strong condemnation, leading to protests outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi. In addition, New Delhi requested the interim government in Dhaka to make sure that those responsible for the "barbaric killing" of Das are brought before the law.
The event resulted in an outcry of indignant voices and angry speeches all over India, and a throng of protestors gathered at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi to express their indignation. On Saturday, the temporary government announced the arrest of 10 individuals in connection with the murder of Das.
Security Strengthened in Bangladesh
The police say that from Friday morning onward, security measures were intensified at the Assistant High Commission office in Upashahar area, the residence of the Assistant High Commissioner in the same locality, and the visa application centre in Shobhanighat area. Security personnel were also present throughout the night.
Following the death of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Hadi on Thursday, Gano Odhikar Parishad arranged a programme to surround the Assistant High Commission office.
