Mallikarjun Kharge Discharged After Pacemaker Surgery, Set to Gradually Resume Political Engagements
Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of the Congress and the leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha is discharged from the hospital after being unwell.
New Delhi (India) October 3: Mallikarjun Kharge is the president of the Congress. He was released from MS Ramaiah Hospital in Bengaluru following the implantation of a pacemaker. According to party authorities, Kharge's health is steady. He will likely resume his political activities slowly.
Kharge's Health Update
Kharge had the surgery on Wednesday October 1 after being taken to the hospital on Tuesday. It was due to respiratory discomfort. His condition has been regarded as stable and improving. The doctors have recommended that he get enough sleep.
Kharge addressed party members, cadres, and sympathizers in a post after being discharged from the hospital. He wrote, "My sincere thanks to the Congress cadres, leaders, and supporters for the outpouring of wishes. My deepest gratitude. I intend to start my work schedule soon” on social media platform X.
Pacemaker Procedure
Earlier his son Priyank Kharge said that the leader is in stable condition and has been advised to get a pacemaker. The 83-year-old senior leader got admitted to Bengaluru's MS Ramaiah Hospital after being ill with a fever and leg pain.
Priyank wrote, “The pacemaker implantation procedure for Sri. Kharge was successfully completed earlier today. It was a short and minor procedure and he has been stable after the procedure” on X.
PM Modi sends recover wishes
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a conversation with Kharge after the surgery. Modi wrote, "Spoke to Kharge Ji. Enquired about his health and wished him a speedy recovery. Praying for his continued well-being and long life” on X.
The Congress President said, "Thank you," on X. This is in response to the Prime Minister's wishes later that day.
Plans for Kohima Rally
On October 7, Kharge is expected to travel to Kohima and speak at a public gathering at Naga Solidarity Park.
The statement was made at a news conference held at Congress Bhavan in Kohima by Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee President and Lok Sabha MP S Supongmeren Jamir.
Congress anticipates the event will draw at least 10,000 people. The event has the theme "Safe Democracy, Safe Secularism, and Safe Nagaland". It will also emphasise important topics including road connectivity, entrepreneurship, youth employment, and good governance.
Regional Outreach
Kharge will also meet separately with the presidents of the District Congress Committees (DCCs), Pro-Committee, and senior members of the Congress Political Affairs Committee after the show.
The Congress MP emphasized that the rally serves as a political platform to discuss issues facing Nagaland and the Northeast in addition to being a party event. He urged people to attend the march and express their concerns. They said that regional officials would take them up. This was especially important for minorities.
