Mamata Banerjee Urges Vigil on Bengal Border to Block Infiltration

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], May 21: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee recently addressed a serious issue during her administrative visit to Siliguri. Speaking to top officials, she said borders must be guarded carefully. Some people were seen entering the state through open areas near Assam. They collected important ID details like PAN cards. This could lead to crimes. So, she asked the police to watch every move near the border. She said no unknown person should enter and create fear among locals.

Districts on Alert

She named places like Malda, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, and Darjeeling. These are close to Bangladesh. The CM told officials there to visit these border points without giving prior notice. This would help catch people who try to sneak in. Mamata Banerjee also asked officers in South Dinajpur to regularly patrol the Hili border. Increased police presence will help people feel safe and show that the law is active and alert.

Concerns Over Fake Videos

Another danger she talked about was the spread of fake videos. These videos are used to spread hatred among communities. She warned officers to stop such activities. People must not share private details like voter IDs with strangers. The CM said only authorised people should handle this data. She asked people to be careful and alert. Her words were clear: such misuse must stop, and no one should play with peace.

IB and Officials Advised to Stay Proactive

Mamata Banerjee told the state’s Intelligence Branch (IB) to be more active. She said they must prevent tension before it begins. She also spoke about a recent riot in Murshidabad, where people from across the border were blamed. She asked, “How could this happen?” while expressing concern. She mentioned that some people had names written twice in voter lists. This shows that data entry is not being checked properly. Officers must check all work carefully.

Spotlight on Open Borders and Voter List Issues

She did not name Bangladesh directly, but mentioned places like Islampur and Chopra. These areas do not have proper fencing, and people have tried entering through there. Mamata Banerjee also talked about a new Army exercise near the border called Teesta Prahar. It was meant to tighten security. She told local leaders to look into the voter list updates too. She said the same name is being added more than once. This should not happen, and must be corrected quickly.
