Mithun Manhas Becomes BCCI President: Former Cricketer Takes Charge After Unopposed Appointment in Mumbai AGM
Mithun Manhas is formally appointed as the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He takes charge of Indian cricket.

New Delhi (India) September 28: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has formally named Mithun Manhas as its president. It is after the Annual General Meeting (AGM) concluded on Sunday, September 28 in Mumbai. Mithun became the third consecutive cricketer to hold the position after Roger Binny and Sourav Ganguly. He was chosen without opposition.
Manhas became the 37th president of the Board. He was appointed after Roger Binny resigned last month after turning 70.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh posts, “A momentous occasion to celebrate! Mithun Manhas has been officially declared as the new President of the ‘Board of Control for Cricket in India’ BCCI. What a providential Sunday for the erstwhile district of Doda, one of the remotest parts of Jammu & Kashmir, which incidentally also happens to be my own home district. Within a gap of few hours, first a daughter of Kishtwar, Sheetal, shines out as World Champion and soon thereafter a son of Bhaderwah, Mithun stands atop” on social media platform X.
Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly also praised Mithun for this appointment. He said, "I congratulate him as it is a very big post. Being the President of the richest and most skilled board, the cricketers who play for India are an unbelievable talent. It is a huge responsibility to manage and guide them. I hope he will work really well along with his team."
Key Appointments Across Top BCCI Posts
Key Indian cricket decision-makers met on Saturday to consider possibilities for a number of posts. Rajeev Shukla was appointed as the vice-president. He has extensive expertise in both strategic planning and cricket administration. Prabhtej Singh Bhatia is appointed as the joint-secretary. Devajit Saikia is elected as the honorable secretary. Raghuram Bhat will serve as treasurer. He will oversee financial decisions. He will make sure the board's assets are handled effectively and openly.
Jaydev Niranjan Shah is named the only Apex Council member. Additionally, Khairul Jamal Majumdar and Arun Singh Dhumal are added to the Governing Council. The men's selection committee will also include former Indian cricket players Pragyan Ojha and RP Singh. Amita Sharma will officially replace Neetu David as chair of the women's selection panel.
Manhas’ Cricketing Journey and Transition to Leadership
Mithun Manhas was born in Jammu and Kashmir on October 12, 1979. He has become an integral part of Indian domestic cricket despite never wearing the Indian team jersey. Manhas is well-known for his versatility. He could bowl occasionally off-spin and bat right-handed.
Manhas played in 157 games over his 18-year first-class career. He has scored 9,714 runs at an average of just under 46. His best season was 2007–2008, during which he scored 27 hundreds and 49 fifties.
Throughout his IPL career, Mithun Manhas wore the jerseys of three different teams. From 2008 to 2010, he played for the Delhi Daredevils. After that, he joined the Pune Warriors, where he played from 2011 to 2013. His T20 career took a new turn in 2014 when he joined the Chennai Super Kings.
He transitioned into coaching and administration after retiring in 2017. He has served as the batting coach of the Gujarat Titans team.
