PM Modi's Jordan Visit Marks 75 Years of Ties Amid Ethiopia, Oman Trips; Boosts Trade, Tech & Regional Peace
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Jordan, Ethiopia, and Oman; countries that share a strong history and are, respectively, India's most significant trading partners.
New Delhi (India) December 15: On his trip that will cover three nations : Ethiopia and Oman, Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to Amman, Jordan on the 15th of December.
Jordanian Prime Minister Jafar Hassan met and greeted PM Modi at the airport. This visit is like a gift to the 75 years of friendly relations between the two countries and during the visit, it is possible to open up other sectors of collaboration between India and Jordan and uphold our pledge to make and share the benefits of peace, security, and stability not only in our region but also globally.
Royal Invitation from Jordan King
At the invitation of King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein on the current state of relations between India and Jordan, Prime Minister Modi has been invited to talk with him about the present situation in both India and Jordan, as well as the current situation in the region.
PM Modi and King Abullah will attend a business meeting between India and Jordan on Tuesday, and business leaders from both countries will attend.
Business Boost: Trade Hits $2.875B, Investments Grow
Prior to a Cooperation Agreement in 1947 and the conclusion of full diplomatic relations in 1950, India and Jordan had long enduring and positive relationships in respect of respect and goodwill.
The bilateral trade between India and Jordan has been steadily growing, with India becoming the fourth largest trading partner in Jordan from the 2023-2024 fiscal year, and India has become Jordan‘s fourth-largest trading partner, continuing to increase bilateral trade.
Overall, for FY 2023-24, India exports to Jordan totaled USD 2.875 billion and Indian exports to Jordan totaled more than 50%. Indian companies have invested approximately USD 1.5 billion in various sectors, including phosphates, fertilisers, textiles and garment manufacturing, which has helped to create jobs and strengthen the nations' economies.
Collaboration in Tech, Education & Skills Development
Additionally, India and Jordan collaborate on mutual interests in health, education, development of skilled workers, capacity building, and technology advancements.
Among the many collaborative projects, the India Jordan Centre of Excellence in Information Technology (ITC) has been the most significant one that was established in 2021 and is a centre for training Jordanian professionals in advanced information technology.
In terms of education, India and Jordan have also collaborated under ITEC and ICCR programme scholarships. Most recently, the number of ITEC scholarships has increased from 37 to 50 per year.
Ethiopia Debut: First-Ever Modi Visit on Dec 16
On the second leg of his journey Prime Minister Modi will visit Ethiopia at the invitation of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali on December 16.
This is the first time that Modi will visit Ethiopia. The two leaders will have an extensive discussion regarding all aspects of India and Ethiopia's relationship.
Oman Return: Strategic Ties Deepen on Dec 17-18
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, will be visiting the Sultanate of Oman between December 17-18, 2025, during his last stop on this trip, which was an invitation from Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to visit Oman.
This is the second time that Prime Minister Modi will be visiting Oman, a partner with whom India has a comprehensive strategic partnership and shares a long history of ties through friendship, trade relations, and the exchange of people.
