The Padma Awards for 2025 were presented by Indian President Droupadi Murmu during the Civil Investiture Ceremony-II at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

New Delhi (India) May 28: The President of India has presented 139 Padma Awards for 2025.The list includes 23 women, 10 foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI, and 13 posthumous awardees.

A number of notable people attended the event, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Union Ministers Amit Shah, S. Jaishankar, Pralhad Joshi, Jitendra Singh, and G. Kishan Reddy.

Kumudini Rajnikant Lakhia received the Padma Vibhushan posthumously for her contributions to the arts. Her grandson accepted the prize on her behalf.

Justice (Retd.) Jagdish Singh Khehar, the former Chief Justice of India also received India's second-highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan for his work in public affairs. Legendary folk singer Sharda Sinha who is known for her devotional and Chhath songs, received the Padma Vibhushan posthumously for her contributions to the folk music arts. Her son received the award on her behalf.

The Padma Bhushan was given to Sadhvi Ritambhara for her contributions to social work. Bibek Debroy, an economist and former chairman of the prime minister's economic advisory council also received the Padma Bhushan posthumously for his services in the fields of education and literature. His wife accepted the honour.

The Padma Bhushan was also given to Dr. Shobana Chandrakumar for her excellent work in folk dance.

The Padma Shri awardees included immunologist and KGMU VC Nityanand, football player Inivalappil Mani Vijayan, singer Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, actor Ashok Laxman Saraf, mask maker Reba Kanta Mahanta, and musician Ricky Gyan Kej.

Famous parai player and folk musician Velu Aasan, businessman Sajjan Bhajanka, Dr. Neerja Bhatla, scientist Ajay V. Bhatt, author Sant Ram Deswal, spiritual leader Acharya and acting instructor Barry John, Farooq Ahmad Mir and Jonas Mejetti also received the Padma Shri.

There are three categories for the Padma Awards: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. These awards recognise achievements in a number of fields including public affairs, art, social work, science and engineering, trade and industry, medical, literature and education, sports, and the civil service.

Padma Shri is given for distinguished service in any field, Padma Bhushan for distinguished service of high order, and Padma Vibhushan for exceptional and distinguished service.
