Bhargavastra: India's homegrown defence system to destroy drone attacks

New Delhi (India) May 15: An important step in fighting the growing threat of drones in large numbers has been made with the design and development of a new low-cost counter drone system in hard kill mode called "Bhargavastra" by Solar Defence and Aerospace Ltd (SDAL).

At the Seaward Firing Range in Gopalpur, the micro rockets used in this counter-drone system underwent thorough testing and met all set objectives.

Bhargavastra can identify and destroy small, approaching drones up to 2.5 km away because of its advanced capabilities. In order to ensure accurate and significant elimination, it utilises unguided micro rockets as the first line of defence, which can destroy drone swarms within a 20-meter deadly radius, and guided micro-missiles, which have already undergone testing.

The Bhargavastra is designed to use small, guided missiles with swarm engagement capability to quickly intercept drones and guarantee a hard kill. With the ability to engage many drones at the same time, this solution provides motion security against drone strikes.

The system is customised to meet the specific operational requirements of India's military forces and is made to deploy easily across a variety of terrains, including high-altitude areas (> 5000 m above sea level).

At the Seaward Firing Range in Gopalpur, the micro rockets used in this counter-drone system underwent comprehensive testing and met all specified objectives.

On May 13, three rocket tests were carried out in Gopalpur in front of top Army officials.

One rocket was fired in each of the two trials.

In one test, two rockets were fired in salvo mode in less than two seconds.

According to a statement from Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited, all four rockets performed as planned and met the necessary launch parameters, demonstrating its cutting-edge technology in countering massive drone strikes.
