Surat’s very own Magicrete is India’s frontline producer of AAC Products, Drymix Mortars & Precast Construction Solutions. It has ushered in new innovative breakthroughs into the construction industry. Puneet Mittal, a qualified Chartered Accountant and co-founder of Magicrete, gives us an insight into its beginnings and success stories.
Q: Tell us about Magicrete.
MagicreteBuilding Solutions was founded in 2008 by a young and dynamic team comprising alumni of IIT Kharagpur, IIT Delhi and IIM Lucknow. A pioneer in green building materials, our vision is to help people build their homes better, cheaper and faster by using innovative construction technologies. A flag-bearer of modern construction technology over the last decade, Magicrete has touched the lives of more than a million people by being used in more than 2,00,000 homes.
Q: How can building solutions be environmental-friendly?
Conventional building materials use soil which is a precious agricultural resource. Hence, we use fly ash, the fine residue from pulverized coal combustion. The process of making these building blocks is also engineered so as to minimize energy consumption and carbon production and thereby reduce pollution.
QEHS (Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety Management System) implementation empowers Magicrete to ensure process excellence across the organization. QEHS encompasses multiple ISO standards, including quality of products/services; environmental friendliness, prevention of pollution; safe and healthy workplace inclusive of participation of workers; compliance with all applicable laws; and establishment of Total Productive Maintenance culture in the workplace with the ultimate target of zero losses, zero breakdowns, and zero incidents. Thus we ensure a holistic, structured and quantifiable methodology for deeper and wider continuous improvement.
Magicrete is also into the manufacture of solar modules and lithium-ion batteries. We are firm believers in environmental friendliness, protection and prevention of pollution, and the following figures prove that Magicrete keeps its word.

Please elaborate. Magicrete was awarded “Most Promising Brand Award 2019 (building material)” by Global Real Estate Congress; “Most Preferred Brand 2018” (blocks/bricks) by ET Now; “Start-up of the Year 2015” nomination by Forbes; “Entrepreneur of the Year 2015” by Tiecon, to name a few.Recently, Magicrete won the Global Housing Technology Challenge organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
