President Murmu Launches Digital Constitution; Highlights National Identity, Women’s Empowerment, and Justice Reforms

President Murmu stated that the Constitution provides an avenue to foster the pride and esteem of the people in their national identity. The goal of the Constitution was to create and protect both personal and democratic rights of every individual, according to the drafters of the Constitution.

New Delhi (India) November 26: During her comments before the nation regarding Constitution Day, President Murmu spoke before the Vice President of India –CP Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narenda Modi, along with the Speaker of the Lok Sabha –Om Birla. She spoke about the aspirations of the nation to become the third largest economy in the world; she highlighted the significance of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam (the Women's Empowerment Bill). Additionally, she addressed the new laws regarding Criminal Justice that will be in place this coming year.

Launch of Digital Constitution in Nine Indian Languages

As part of the Constitution Day program held at the Central Hall in Samvidhan Sadan, commemorating the 75th Completion of the Constitution of India, President Droupadi Murmu announced the launch of the Digital Version of the Constitution of India available in 9 different languages- Malayalam; Marathi; Nepali; Punjabi; Bodo; Kashmiri; Telugu; Odia; Assamese and Hindi. There was also a book available at the same time titled "Bharat Ke Samvidhan Mein Kala Aur Calligraphy".

In her address during the Constitution Day celebration at the Central Hall of the old Parliament building, now known as 'Samvidhan Sadan', President Droupadi Murmu expressed her belief that the Constitution is the basis of the Nation's identity and serves as a guide for nation-building by encouraging the people of our nation to abandon colonialism and embrace nationalism.

Prime Minister Modi Pays Tribute to Framers

Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister, paid homage to the creators of the Constitution while affirming that the vision of these framers will continue to lead India toward the resolution of "Viksit Bharat.

In addition, on Constitution Day, Modi also recognized this date through a letter to all people living in India and reflected back to the year that India created and adopted the Constitution, 1949, emphasizing that this great document continues to serve as a vital guidepost on the road to progressing as a nation.

Reflects on Role of Constitution in Empowering Citizens

Modi indicated how this historic document enabled many people (particularly those from modest backgrounds) to serve their country in important roles. In addition, he discussed his own relationship with both the Constitution and the Parliament, having bowed down to the steps of the Parliament in 2014 upon becoming Prime Minister and then placing the Constitution on his forehead in 2019.

Lastly, he reiterated that the Constitution had permitted billions of people to have dreams and to have the strength to make those dreams become a reality for them.

Since 2015, India has recognized Constitution Day, or "Samvidhan Diwas," on November 26 every year in honor of the day the Constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly. Some parts of the Constitution immediately became law. All other provisions of the Constitution became effective on January 26, 1950, the date that India became a Republic.
